I really love how you conveyed the intimacy of their relationship here. Once a couple gets together there is still so much more to tell. The setting for this story is marvelous. I loved all the atmosphere. I can just picture the catacombs. Spooky!

So many touches that I loved: Holmes' casual endearment of "my heart"; his endearing blush at Watson's praise of his monograph (Hey, he has at least one reader!); and the nice moment when he is sitting between Watson's knees, especially when Watson compares him to a shade-a lovely piece of writing.

I also really enjoyed all the literary/legendary references. The Shakespeare pieces were very aps and worked in to the story in a playful and unpretentious way. The Alexander reference ended up being very poignant.

Can we just lock you in the attic and have you write full time for us? I'll slide food under the door

I'm really coming to love the "established couple" stories. It just seems so right. The line "I levered to my feet and, judging him to be just weary enough to allow it, offered my hand." says it all. They know each other so well, it's just beautiful, and it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.

And the death by "acute case of shovel" made me laugh out loud.

As always, excellent.

Oh, baby! Holmes in a cassock, the thought of it makes me weak in the knees. Does that make me a perv?

And, you used my all-time favorite word: kafuffle. I work it into any conversation whenever I can, just because.

Your Holmes and Watson are so perfect. I love how Watson is continuusly gauging Holmes' emotions and needs at any given moment.

Loved every bit of it!

Aww, Holmes in cassock, I'm melting at the sight of it! I have always thought when he was dressed as an Italian Priest at the Final Problem that an entire story should be devoted to this disguise and what he can make of it. IMHO he would be the ideal personification of a catholic priest. :D

And as for the story, it was a delight to read, I'm enchanted by the sweetness how they care for each other and the little bits of conversation filled with sparkling wit and humour - and all of them so very much according to their characters. Your imagery is splendid, as always, and I'm sure this story will be among my favourites. (*Goes back to dictionary, writing out the medical terms ;)* )

Ah! Another excellent story!
This might well be one of my favourites of yours I think.
I love the plotline. Not the usual way, as someone said, which is good.

Holmes is a cutie-pie and I want to eat him! X)

Oh. My. Dear. God.

I can't even begin to thank you for this wonderful birthday story. It just completely made my day. I was called in to work this morning, and was a little miffed about it, but then to find this wonderful little story awaiting me after work? It's just wonderful and has brought my spirits up so much!

Your Holmes voice is just...guh. Melts me on the spot. I'm always so picky about how Holmes is written and I think your Holmes might be my favourite.

Also, how the devil did you know I loved Hamlet? Through High School we were taught Romeo and Juliet, Twelfth Night, Hamlet, and Macbeth, and by far Hamlet was my favourite. Those bits and pieces of Hamlet were wonderful and nearly had me squeeing in delight.

Watson and his boxing? So wonderful. I don't think I've read very many fics from the point of Watson being on the foot end of an ass kicking. Wonderful, wonderful stuff! Protecting his Holmes!

Truthfully, I actually read this twice before commenting. I just loved it so much I couldn't possibly comment coherently without reading it one more time.

Thank you so much. I think I might actually OWE you something after a gift this amazing. <3
