I have to agree with tafizugirl, wow, just...wow. I've spent the last four days reading everything you have posted here and I have to say that this is my favourite (although it is all very good). It works well as a oneshot but I am hoping that you fufill your promise to eventually post some more (i can see that it was posted over a year ago so I won't hold my breath)

I wandered over here from the crack_van comm over on LJ, and, oh, this piece is marvelous. Mr. Hodgson is a very engaging character, and his interaction with "Will" is subtly poignant. (Plus, I have a huge soft spot for fics with OCs interacting with canon characters.)

I'll be keeping an eye out for the novella. In the meantime, I'm bookmarking this blog so I can read your other stories at leisure.

Bravo! I must say I'm impressed at your ability to make an OC such a well-rounded character in a piece as short as this - and in first person, as well! I was curious about his background from the beginning, given his references to both sea and things equine, and it was gratifying to find my curiosity satisfied before the end.

I loved his observations on "Will", and this was a fine introduction as to what a young Sherlock might have been like.

All in all, excellent, excellent work! Thanks so much for sharing this beautiful story.

By God, this is awesome! A thousand times congratulations for writing this!

I simply love the tone. Your narrator's voice is beautiful. I am utterly in love with him, and I wish I could pop into his shop for sparrow and a jot of whisky myself. It's so wonderfully different to your other stories (that I've read so far), and yet so perfectly well-done. Oooh! It's wonderful! It could be easy to get lost in what this old sailor is saying because his language is different, but you don't, so all credit to you!

As for the story. Just... aaaaaaahhh! Very scary. I have to admit I find myself far more interested Hodgson than 'Will', but his plight is awful, and you really do want to give the twice... what was it you said? I don't know! But you really do want to lay him out... or maybe toss him off a waterfall or two.

Oh yes. Very well done. Have no idea why this only has one other comment when it's clearly the best story I've read in a while! And well worth not bothering to tidy up my flat for. ^.~
